This terraced house sits between Balham and Wandsworth Common, and our clients came to us wanting a full renovation of all four floors, plus a ground and first-floor extension. The project required a thoughtful space planning exercise across both floors — the layouts needed to work harder before any of the pretty decisions could be made.

It begins in the entrance hallway, with herringbone oak running underfoot and bespoke joinery designed for coats, shoes and everything else a family drops at the door. Beyond it, a black metal glazed door opens into the kitchen, dining and living space, anchored by a fully bespoke kitchen and a generous banquette with a large table that seats the whole family. The palette is light but warm, and we kept the design quietly minimal so a few moments could do the talking: a marble splashback and waterfall island with soft green veining, antique brass in the switches, sconces and handles, and black metal accents to give it all a bit of edge.

The first floor became a proper main suite — an airy bedroom, a dressing room behind glazed double-doors, and an ensuite lined in Viola marble porcelain with aged brass fittings. On the floors above, plank oak carries through the bedrooms, a study and a second bathroom in soft blue tile, with fluted oak joinery and a few playful pieces that are entirely the family’s own.

Natural oak is the anchor throughout, and a signature mix of textures and layered lighting gives every room its own depth. Elegant and easy to live in — timeless, but with plenty of personality running through it.
